I don’t know whether you have seen the Sites promoting a new kind of “Exit Popups”?

You will probably remember Exit Popups, the popups that appeared when you left a site. They worked well until the middle of last year when every browser got a popup blocker.

When Exit Popups ceased working, I tried to come up with a solution. I needed those popups for one of my sites in Germany. It is www.LP-nach-CD.de , where I sell equipment to convert old records into CDs and MP3 files.

To get Subscribers for my newsletter, I offered my visitor a free software that could be used to do the conversion. This software was not as easy to use as the paid version, but it worked and it was free.

Guess what? I had a hundred visitors per day, but only 3 Subscibers a fortnight. I could not believe it! Why didn’t people want my free software?

After some thinking I realized that my visitors probably didn’t even see my gift. So I needed a popup to get my visitors attention. But Exit Popups were dead!

So I invented what I called “Don’t Leave Me Ads”. It is a method to prevent visitors from leaving your site. That sounds harsh, but I sweetened that by giving my visitors a present. And believe me, none of them has ever complained!

Since I have started to use “Don’t Leave Me Ads” in June last year my Subscribers went up from 3 per fortnight to 2 to 5 per day. That is about a 1400% increase!

“Don’t Leave Me Ads” were a very powerful tool for me, so I decided not to tell anyone about them.

Until now!

On Tuesday this week I discovered that other Marketers had come up with a very similar method. So the word was out, and there was to need for me to hide my “Secret Weapon” any longer.

I decided to sell the Software for $9.95. The Software runs on Windows and needn’t be installed. When you start it, you will just have to type in 2 fields and will then get a code that you paste into your website. That’s it! Easy to use!

A word of warning: One of the reasons why Exit Popups got such a bad reputation was that some maniacs just didn’t let you leave their site. Every page you got to had a new Exit Popup and you could not get rid of them.

I think if used wisely (just one popup and then for heaven’s sake, let your visitor go!) “Don’t Leave Me Ads” or any other of the new methods can be a very powerful tool in the hands of every Marketer!
